ARFON at Austin Film Festival 2019
Our dreams came true: we were an official selection for Austin Film Festival - our hometown festival, our first love, our comfort zone. We could not have been more thrilled to screen at AFF as our Texas Premiere.
Although our time slots were less than ideal (4:30pm on a Saturday up north while the conference was still happening downtown and 1:30pm on a Wednesday afternoon) we sold out both screenings. We cannot even begin to express how heartwarming it is to know that our hometown wanted to see our movie that badly.
The first was at the newly-renovated Galaxy Highland theatre and hoo-boy it was cool to see our movie in a traditional movie theatre. The second was at the intimate Hideout Theater downtown which felt super cool since we shot in a similar theatre in town for some of our scenes. We were so fortunate to be able to participate in Q&A sessions with our audience after both screenings. Here's a pic of our 2nd Q&A moderated by Austin Film Commission's own Brian Gannon. The fact that the audiences stayed full during our talkback sessions was truly remarkable - the fact that y'all wanted to stay and hear what we had to say was so so special.
And, we had a bunch of great local press. We were especially honored to have almost a full page in print in the Austin Chronicle, one of our favorite publications.
If you didn't catch it in print the week of the fest, you can read it online HERE.
We were also fortunate to have coverage in Seguin Today and The Seguin Gazette. We stayed busy during the festival guesting on podcasts like Yes But Why by Amy Jordan, The Film Forward Podcast by Los Angeles Diversity Film Festival, Lights Camera Austin on KOOP radio and River Time on Wimberley Valley Radio. You can read and/or listen to any of them on our press page HERE.
If you attended either of our screenings, saw our previous screening or have watched the screener online as your $25 perk, please consider rating and writing a review for us on IMDb and give us a shout on social media if you enjoyed your time. Tiny movies like ours are made possible by word-of-mouth recommendations, and as we prepare for a digital release, we'd love to have a solid start online so that we don't get totally lost in the ethers of a bazillion streaming options.
Now that we've proudly premiered in our Hometown, it's time to look forward to some public screenings. Those are still in the works, but expect some news about at least one Austin screening. We're also looking at local screenings in Seguin, San Marcos and possibly the DFW area. If you want us to come to your town, let us know by replying to this update email and we can look into what that would take. Our distribution deal (public details still pending) is all digital, so in-person screenings will be a labor of love organized directly by us. There's always the chance you could catch us at your local fest, too, so let us know where you like to see movies so we can submit.
And, one last goofy picture for good measure:
